Depending on the circumstances,
music can be an offering,
an invocation
or a meditation support
A Sanskrit term meaning 'praise', 'song' or 'prayer to the divine', a Kirtan is a devotional song.
In India and around the world, people come together to sing together.
It goes as songs to respond to, often taking the form of a mantra ,
accompanied in turn by a guitar, a harmonium, and percussion.
The repetition of these short sentences, sometimes just a few words, calms the mind,
rocks the soul, and draws us into a true form of active meditation.
We don't applaud when the singing stops.
We remain in silence and savor the vibration of these sacred words
which still resonates in our different bodies and our consciousness.
Paradoxically at first glance, singing allows :
- to bring silence to our mind which is constantly agitating and murmuring;
- Promote a temporary state of attention, concentration, while the brain is absorbed in repetition;
- and thus becomes a vehicle towards different states of mind or spheres of consciousness.
